Swine Hysteria

without comments

H1N1 is the name people call it these days. Its rather recognizable. In my opinion I think the hysteria has been shoved down our throat so many times that a single cough could mean swine flu. At my local university (University of South Florida) they have made it a priority to post fliers and brief students in every class as if we have not heard of it yet. So far, the regular flu is more dangerous than H1N1. I’m not trying to downplay being ready for a possible deadlier strain to come about, I’m simply saying WE GET IT ALREADY.

Welcome Back?

without comments

Well hello, Its been a while since updating this site. I apologize and hope to get posting picked back up. Lots of personal issues have been at the forefront lately and it has been difficult to find the time and motivation to keep things going here. Keeping my mind busy helps so I will continue to start posting this week.

Kid flys off the handle WoW accound canceled

without comments

Is this even real? It has made network news so this is definitely making its rounds. This kid’s World of Warcraft account was canceled and he apparently lost it. I think this shows he needs mental help and maybe not play video games in the future. Taking this a little too seriously?  (Steve is his name)

If you want my take….I think this is staged. No reasonable person would fly off the handle like that. The little brother “placing” the video camera was suspiciously too  perfect. :) Watch it for yourself..

One of those days

with one comment

Do you ever have one of those days where no matter what you do its painfully hard to be creative or to be inspired to get projects done they way they were first dreamed up with all their glory? Today is one of those days for me. Work is piling up and my drive is falling to unproductive lows. I guess that’s why personal blogs exist so we can get our “rants” off the table and get some work done.

I am bringing online a new site tonight that feature news stories of parents who make bad decisions regarding their children. You could call it an awareness blog for child abuse. (This is a new version of the old site “Bum Parents”) I will update the link when its ready to go.

Secondly, in the very near future I would like to bring to the online world a new political blog written directly by me to vent frustrations in the political world.

Movie: Eagle Eye

with one comment

Eagle Eye was one of those movies I was looking forward to seeing. Cool idea, but just didn’t do it for me. I felt like some aspects were taken too far to be believable and the idea that a computer had taken control to the point of being able to destroy anyone who came near made it over the top. Could have been more believable but 7/10 overall.

Current Readings

without comments

A book I do recommend, but not for the faint of heart, “The Lovely Bones” is an exciting but saddening novel that reads from the point of view of a murdered teenage girl. The story is told from her and shows the true hardships of coping of a devastated family. I’m currently finishing this book and next on my list:

“Losing my virginity” Autobiography of Sir Richard Branson

Anti-smoking bill hopes to reduce teen smokers

with 2 comments

This bill will give the FDA power limit what goes into a tobacco product, new products from being produced, and restrictions on tobacco farmers. Furthermore, the warning label will cover 50% of the front and rear packaging with a bold WARNING listed. Flavors are outlawed. I wonder how far that will stretch to include hookah and cigars. Hm. There are plenty more regulations than I have listed, but the point is: The government has too much control.

I wonder how many people don’t realize the dangers of smoking by now? I wonder how many teens are going to do it anyway despite the government’s best regulations/bans? I’m all for reducing the number of teens who smoke, but doing so by government control is not the answer.

This one is amusing

without comments

I’m sure many of you have seen these claims: Make Money Posting Links on Google, How I make 5,000 dollars a month and so on. I just wanted to call them out. They are no doubt a scam, trying to bank on people who aren’t familiar with how making money with Google really works. I have seen these ads on Facebook. I’m not sure why they are allowed to be posted, but I assume its money.

These pages are so fake that is amuses me. Look how it appears to be a blog but is really just a static page with fake comments and such. Oh and these guys have the perfect life according to their bios right? How wonderful it must be.

The real deal

I have yet to find the section of Google that allows you to post links for several thousands of dollars. In reality, they are most likely referring to Google Adsense which will pay you a good amount if you have oh..a million page views a day. For most of us, its 50 cents a day or week for that matter.

Weird Foods

without comments

One of my favorite shows is Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmerman. To many, it’s gross. To me, it’s a dream job getting to travel and try the world’s most exotic foods. I like a culinary adventure so I was excited to be introduced to Andrew’s “in the kitchen” web special. Basically, he makes a semi exotic dish [not as exotic or weird as it could have suited me] but nonetheless, unique. Sweet and Sour Bangkok chicken is on my list.
