“Worthless Piece of Paper”
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed that OPEC is interested in a non-Dollar currency because the dollar is a “worthless piece of paper.” Personally, I say consider the source on this. Ahmadinejad is very devoted to the cause of yanking our chain at the moment. Not to mention that our embargos against his country make it very difficult for him to do trade in US dollars. So, of course, he would be trying to aggitate for OPEC to do buisness in a different currency. But, his statements have still caused the price of oil to go up yet again which is scary.
Also in the news: The collapse of the housing market and credit worries are hurting the economy and could cause a recession. What planet are these people on? Could cause a recession. Honey, we’re in a recession. Every week there are news stories about how it is harder to get from paycheck to paycheck. I see it in my own life. I work for a non-profit agency that helps struggling families. Our private donations are way down because people just don’t have it to give anymore. Also, the volume of calls that we take is continuously going up. Oh yes, people have jobs. But, now they’re working for $8 with no benefits when five years ago they were on a forty thousand dollar a year salary.
Hasn’t anybody read Animal Farm? Can’t people see that this is exactly what is happening in our society? Things are getting worse and worse, but the government and their hired experts keep saying it’s getting better, and the majority of us are stupid enough to believe it.
Four Get HIV Through Organ Transplant
Four transplant patients got HIV and Hepatitis from an organ donor. Although, donor guidelines state that people who engage in high-risk activity should not be allowed to donate unless the recepient is in danger of imminent death, they allowed for this to occur anyway.
Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donation Network knew that the donor was high risk. They say they tested the tissue and that it was negative, so they gave the go ahead for the organs to be implanted into four innocent people.
Hillary Clinton Is A Big Baby
Hillary Clinton accused John Edwards and Barack Obama of Republican style mud slinging – basically because they disagree with her. Both Edwards and Obama have criticized her health care plan, her plan on Iraq, her ever-changing positions on Social Security and drivers licenses for illegal immigrants. In easier words they’re pointing out that, while all the other Democratic candidates have actual ideals, Hillary Clinton will say whatever she thinks will get her elected. And, apparently in the mind of Hillary Clinton Obama and Edwards are supposed to be mimicking those old Pepsi commercials and just stupidly nod their heads and say, “Uh-huh, uh-huh” and every thing that comes out of her mouth.
Write In Stephen Colbert
Okay, I KNOW that Stephen Colbert’s run for the Presidency was a joke. He was only running in one state. He fully expected to lose. The South Carolina Democratic Executive Council has voted to keep him off the South Carolina ballot. Why? He filed the appropriate paperwork. He paid the appropriate fees. The commitee was afraid that Colbert would “detract the race for serious candidates.”
Can I have that again in English?
They were afraid he would win. Of course, a win for Colbert in South Carolina could somehow influence who ultimately got the nomination.
Unintended Risk of File Sharing
I’ve long since been told by people more knowledgable than me that if you have file sharing software on your computer, you will have virus/spyware problems. It doesn’t matter how good your virus scan is. But, apparently, some people are now able to use file sharing programs to hack into your computer and steal your identity. Is free music really worth all this headache? For $15 a month, you can have a subscription to Napster or some other legal music downloading site.
Doesn’t This Violate Separation of Church and State
American Bishops stated that Catholics must follow church teaching when voting next year, and that abortion should be the priority. In other words: Thou Shalt Vote Republican (if you’re Catholic). Isn’t that a violation of the separation of Church and State? Granted the bishops aren’t coming right out and saying, “You will vote for InsertRepublicanHere.” But, they may as well. Also, why should abortion be the priority. Wouldn’t the abortion rate be lower if poverty were lower? You really can’t support a family when you’re working at Wal-Mart for $6.75. Not that plenty of women aren’t trying. How many women choose abortion because they simply can’t afford to take care of the child? I don’t have an answer to that, I’m just posing the question. What about affordable child care? It can be a real nightmare trying to line up affordable quality childcare, if you’re a working mother. In my area, child care for an infant is about $125 per week. If you’re working for $6.75, that is almost half your gross. Again, in the area where I live one of the higest paying employers requires its employees to work swing shifts. There is no exception for women with children. I’ve known women who had to either pass up the opportunity to work there or had to quit because of child care issues. At the same place, if you call in more than 3 times in 90 days, you’re fired. Children get sick. You can’t take them to daycare, if they’re sick. So, what’s a woman with children supposed to do?
More Politics
Apparently at a recent speech Senator Clinton’s people had people planted to ask specific questions. Senator Clinton claims she didn’t know who she was calling on. I call BS. John Edwards says this is something our current president does. Well, isn’t it? Senator Clinton says that John Edwards is attacking Democrats and dividing the party. No honey, he’s trying to win! Besides what are you doing with all those lovely e-mails you send out attacking Obama?
“If I Were A Muslim I Would Let You Know”
Yet another stupid e-mail about Obama’s religion and questioning his patriotism is going around. Obama says, “If someone comes at me I’m going to come right back at them hard.”
I think Obama is making a mistake with this approach. The number one reason that Bill Clinton won in 1992 is because 1) he did not engage in mudslinging. 2) He didn’t respond to it either. He just kept talking about the issues loud and clear. Actually, his wife would do well to remember that. The other reason I think he’s making a mistake is: It’s an email being sent by stupid people to other stupid people. The folks circulating this e-mail weren’t going to vote for him anyway. They’re the people running around saying, “Ain’t no (insert racial slur here) gonna be president of my country.” Calling him a Muslim just makes it all the juicier.
Is It Really That Hard To Use A Condom?
Last year there were over one million new cases of chlamydia reported in the US. That is the most ever reported of any one sexually transmitted disease. If that isn’t bad enough new cases of gonorrhea are on the rise as well, and you can’t just run down to the clinic for a quck shot with this one. Oh no! It’s one of those super anti-biotic resistant strains!
A quick Google search tells me that, apart from abstinence, that using a condom is the best way to prevent the spread of these diseases. Come on people!!! Is it really that hard to use a condom? There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that these statistics should be so high.
What Is It About Guys Named Peterson?
Drew Peterson’s wife, Stacy, disappeared on October 28. Stacy had told family that she was afraid of Drew and wanted to leave him, and then she disappeard. He claims that she left him for another man, but wouldn’t she have let her family know where she was? Wouldn’t she have noticed her face on the national news? To make this situation even better, Drew Peterson’s third wife apparently died under mysterious circumstances, but a coronor ruled it an accident. Now, Illinois police are digging up her body to take another look. I want to know where wives #1 and #2 are.
But, seriously….what is it about guys named Peterson and killing their wives? Scott Peterson is currently on death row for murdering his wife Laci…. it even rhymes with Stacy. Here’s hoping that the families of Stacy Peterson and his late third wife get justice at last.
