Clinton, Obama, and Healtcare

without comments

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are continue to argue over eachother’s health care plans.  I must admit that I dont’ know anything about Obama’s health care plan, except that it would leave 15 million Americans uncovered.  I know that much because I hear it from Hillary Clinton EVERY NIGHT!!

Hillary Clinton’s health care plan would require that every American pay for health insurance, much like states require drivers to carry car insurance.  Here’s where Hillary shows how out of touch with reality she is.   Does Senator Clinton know how many people don’t drive because they can’t afford the insurance?  I don’t know an exact number, but a quick glance across the parking lot to the bus stop and the number of scooters on the road, tell me that it’s a lot.

I am fortunate enough that my employer pays 100% of my health insurance, so I had to ask my boss how much my company pays for my insurance every month.  The answer:  $450 a month.   That’s just for me.  I don’t drink.  I don’t smoke.  I am healthy.  My car insurance is $120 a month for two cars.  That’s a big price difference.

According to the Washington Post the average wage earner in America makes $17 per hour.  That’s the mid-point.  Personally, I wish I made $17 per hour.  But, anyway….  if a person makes $17 per hour, they will make about $2720 before taxes, which means they’ll take home around $2000.  Under Senator Clinton’s plan a healthy adult with no children, earning $17 per hour, would be paying almost 25% of their net in health insurance.  According to the Virginia Department of Housing fair market in the Washington DC area for a ONE BEDROOM is $1169 per month.  That would leave this person with a little over $400 a month to pay for food, electricity, phone, cable, car, and car insurance.  I am here to tell you, folks, that is unrealistic and unreasonable.  God help a single mother struggling to make it.  Never mind the large number of Americans who make less than $17 per hour!  As we can see, Hillary Clinton’s plan is not only unrealistic, it would be bad for the economy.

Barack Obama is 100% correct when he asserts that the average American isn’t doing without insurance because they don’t want it, they can’t afford it.
